HKUST Career Center has officially launched a university-wide Co-op Program for undergraduate students across all disciplines. This program aims to provide students with a unique opportunity to integrate academic learning with hands-on work experience in a professional setting. Details are as follows:
- Administered by HKUST Career Center
HKUST Co-op Program is designed for year 2 and above undergraduate students. Participating students are required to apply for study leave and take up a full-time co-op internship for a period of at least 4 months. After completion of the co-op internship, students are required to enroll into a 3-credit co-op course in the following term to fulfil the course requirements. For co-op course details and requirements, please refer to the course description in SIS.
- Administered by HKUST School of Engineering
Several academic departments under the School of Engineering offer engineering discipline specific co-op experience that could potentially substitute for the Final Year Project (FYP). Engineering students should visit here and find out more about discipline-specific Co-op Programs in the following links:
- Co-op Opportunities
Most co-op opportunities are offered directly from individual employers as "direct-hire" opportunities and these "direct-hire" co-op opportunities targeting HKUST students can be found on our HKUST-exclusive Job Board under "Co-op" employment types. Check them out!

The HKUST Career Center (herein "CC") posts advertisements and notices of co-op internship opportunities and programs as a service to students. The postings or links contain information created and maintained solely by other public and private organizations. CC is not responsible for safety, wages, working conditions, or other aspects of a co-op internship or related program CC assumes no liability for any loss, damage, direct or indirect harm, illness or personal injury (including pain, suffering, and death), that may be sustained by students in the course of participating in a co-op internship or related program. Students should pay attention to the terms and clauses of insurance coverage and consider purchasing additional insurance coverage according to personal need.
-
CC has no formal relationship or agreement with most of the programs advertised or posted on CC website, nor does it have any supervisory or administrative role in any of these programs. Students assume all responsibility to investigate and be informed of all aspects of the co-op internships and program details. -
Students are urged to exercise common sense and be cautious when applying for or accepting any co-op internship or employment position. CC will not be informed by co-op internship organizer / host company / employer of its shortlisting process and procedure. Students should remain vigilant throughout the application process, especially when monetary commitment is requested before offer details, such as internship city, host company, co-op internship period and job description / specification etc., have been made known to you. Other red flag signs include but not limited to: a) a contact email address which does not carry a company or organization domain name (e.g. an employer calling itself Infinity Co. with a Gmail or Yahoo email address), the absence of official website or an unanswered telephone number; b) zero program fee together with a great amount of deposit but little information about the deposit or program fee refund policy; and c) unreasonably short turnaround time between the application deadline and departure date.
